Engineering goods exporters: the four things you are leaving on the table.
Engineering exporters carry the broadest HS coverage. RoDTEP rates range from 0.6 percent on iron and steel products to 2.5 percent on finished electrical machinery. Sub-classification within HS 8479 alone determines whether a Rs 2 crore consignment yields Rs 12,000 or Rs 50,000 in RoDTEP.

Quirks of this sector that cost exporters money
- 01HS 7308 (structural iron and steel) was hit by the May 2025 RoDTEP halving. Plan accordingly.
- 02Auto components under 8708 split into 20+ sub-codes with materially different rates.
- 03EEPC India publishes a separate rate matrix worth cross-checking against DGFT Appendix 4R.
- 04Machines, n.e.s. under HS 8479 vary from 0.4 to 2.5 percent. Sub-code precision matters more here than anywhere.
- 05Iron and steel scrap was added to the RoDTEP negative list in March 2025.
